Contigo brand water bottles AUTOSPOUT Straw Gizmo Flip, AUTOSPOUT Straw Gizmo Sip, AUTOSPOUT Straw Striker, and the larger Ashland water bottle potentially contain hidden hazards due to the inability to properly clean the cup's mechanisms.* The flawed design of these Contigo cups allows for mold and/or mildew to grow in areas that are impossible to clean.
We are gathering a list of lead plaintiffs and class members to bring a class action against Contigo to force the company to pull these dangerous cups off of the market, redesign them so the lids can be thoroughly cleaned, and reimburse individuals who have purchased the expensive Contigo cups. To qualify as a lead plaintiff, you must have Contigo cups in your possession with visible signs of mold or mildew present. Often, the mildew and/or mold growing inside the lid is not discovered until the lid is broken apart, as shown in the picture. Please be aware that if you break the lid of a Contigo cup apart, you will not be able to reassemble it for use.
These cups pose a danger for children and adults alike as most people are unaware of the mold or mildew growing inside. Unfortunately, there is no way to clean inside the plastic mouthpiece surrounding the rubber auto-spout. The plastic is fused to the lid and must be broken before the extent of the growth is determined. The main goal of this class action will to force the company to redesign the lid so all of the mechanisms can be properly cleaned.
